Camuy mayor Gabriel "Gaby" Hernández Rodríguez highlighted progress on several projects he expects to boost the economy of Puerto Rico’s north coast. The Hatillo-Camuy filter plant, which has suffered constant problems over the past year and a half serving the neighborhoods Zanja, Yeguada, Membrillo, el Pueblo, Puente and part of Abra Honda, is being replaced with a new $56 million plant begun in February 2025 under the previous administration.

It should be completed by the last quarter of 2028 and join the newly built Hatillo-Camuy dam, a $14 million investment from the past four-year term, substantially improving water service. The emblematic Juan Francisco "Cheo" López Stadium, home of the Double A team Camuy Arenas, champions in 2023, is getting a $10.7 million first-phase rehabilitation.

The project was auctioned, with a company preselected by the auction board, pending FEMA Region 2 validation in New York, which in June set a 90-day deadline for review and approval. Construction is estimated at one year and two months, with a hoped-for 2028 inauguration. Hernández also cited private investments: a new flag hotel with 124 rooms, a concessions area and a casino; a 120-unit housing development with walk-ups and houses plus 45,000 square feet of commercial space along Highway 2; and a condo-hotel with restaurant converting the former Pablo Ávila school, unused, into apartments, creating more jobs.
