Governor Jenniffer González Colón visited Hormigueros under her 'Cumpliendo contigo' program, where she assigned funds, advanced works and inaugurated two projects with Mayor Pedro García, District 20 Representative Emilio Carlo and staff from the Office of Management and Budget, the Department of Natural and Environmental Resources (DRNA), Puerto Rico’s Central Office for Recovery, Reconstruction and Resiliency (COR3), which pays out the federal disaster recovery money, Housing and the Puerto Rico Police. A collaboration agreement between the Transportation Department (DTOP) and the town will pave 3.6 kilometers of PR-346, which carries 2,500 vehicles daily, with an assignment of $598,261.10.
By letter of August 27, 2025, the governor also notified the mayor of an additional $600,000 in CDBG-DR funds for two priority projects under the City Revitalization Program. One is the new Municipal Cine Teatro, named for producer Ángel M. 'Kcho' Santiago Rosario, remodeled with $3.3 million in federal funds into a functional, accessible space for school and cultural activities, community meetings, training and recitals.
The other is the Coliseo Dr. Wilfredo Toro Vázquez, reinaugurated after a $10.2 million investment in federal funds the governor secured as resident commissioner plus state funds. Its 3,500-person capacity arena gained an enlarged court, a new surface and stands modified to FIBA standards. The town’s homemaker-services funding has reached $154,600, $150,626 and most recently $188,200, important in a town where the older-adult population triples the number of children.
