The first JetBlue flight on the new direct route between Thurgood Marshall International Airport in Baltimore (BWI) and Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) in San Juan arrived Monday, announced Willianette Robles Cancel, executive director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company (CTPR). She said the negotiations carried out by the Tourism Company’s Air and Maritime Access Division, on behalf of the Government of Puerto Rico, have significantly strengthened the island’s air connectivity by expanding routes and increasing seat availability.
As announced in July, the connection is projected to generate about $38.7 million in direct economic activity for Puerto Rico. Robles Cancel said these efforts have helped reach record passenger movement figures, boost the development of tourism sectors, foster job creation, diversify the destination’s offerings and strengthen Puerto Rico’s positioning as an attractive destination for domestic and international travelers.
The new link expands direct access from the US East Coast and offers a chance to increase visitor flow during the high tourist season, and it is expected to stimulate economic activity in hotels, restaurants, commerce and attractions. Authorities said the efforts aim to identify new connectivity opportunities and raise Puerto Rico’s profile in international markets.
