San Juan Mayor Miguel Romero Lugo said that Family Department Secretary Suzanne Roig Fuertes should resign, arguing she no longer has the support needed to lead the agency. Speaking on the radio program Pegao’s en la Mañana, Romero Lugo said the official should evaluate whether she still has the conditions to carry out her responsibilities.
"I think that now, more than a distraction, it’s that they don’t have the support to carry out the work that the Family Department does," he said. The mayor acknowledged that the decision on the secretary’s future belongs to the governor, and said he was not seeking to interfere with that authority, but from Roig Fuertes’s own perspective she should quickly reflect on her continuation in the post.
"I think she should leave the position," he stated, adding that the question should be whether she can fulfill the work she swore to do, and that in his view those conditions have not existed for a long time.
