A 23-year-old motorcyclist died in an early-morning traffic accident on Tuesday on the José de Diego highway (PR-22) at kilometer 6.2, in the San Juan-to-Bayamón direction, in Puerto Rico. The Puerto Rico Police Bureau’s Highway Patrol Division received a 9-1-1 call at 3:32 AM alerting about the crash. Officers found the rider’s body at the scene without vital signs from injuries suffered in the accident.
He was identified as Ángel Mulero Tirado, 23, a resident of Cataño, who was free on federal probation for violating the weapons law. Auxiliary director of the Highway Patrol, Lieutenant Rodolfo León, said a hit-and-run has not been ruled out and the investigation remains open because several factors suggest he may have lost control, fallen to the pavement, and been run over by another vehicle.
As part of the investigation led by agent Aléxis González, joined by the Homicide Division of the Criminal Investigation Corps of Bayamón, police will seek through a court order several security videos from the area to determine what actually occurred. A firearm was recovered at the scene; officers must verify whether the motorcyclist was carrying it, since he had no license due to the charges he faced, and a magazine was seized from him.
Regarding tire marks left by a truck on the pavement, León said that is why a hit-and-run is not ruled out, but they must establish that it relates to the fatal accident. The roadway was reopened after the investigation concluded.
