The Indios de Mayagüez will dedicate their 2026-2027 season in the Roberto Clemente Professional Baseball League (LBPRC) to former player Luis "Wicho" Figueroa, honoring his career and contributions to the historic Puerto Rican winter ball franchise. The announcement was made Wednesday at a press conference at Mayagüez Mall, where the organization also presented its roster and coaching staff ahead of the tournament’s start.
Figueroa will be formally recognized during the Indios’ home opener, scheduled for Sunday, November 8, at the Isidoro "Cholo" García stadium. "Thanks be to God for all the blessings and to management for this honor. Everything I did for this team came from the heart; today I wish them much success and continued joy for Mayagüez," Figueroa said.
The team begins a new era under manager Martín "Machete" Maldonado, a former Major League catcher who wore the Indios uniform for 10 seasons. In his first appearance before the press as manager, Maldonado said the goal is to win the championship, noting that 90% of the roster has reported early and playball would be called the following day. He also acknowledged Arturo Soto, who will complete his 49th season with the organization.
