Puerto Rico Senate President Thomas Rivera Schatz reacted to the Democratic Party’s victory in the U.S. midterm elections with a message criticizing arrogance and elitism in politics. In his usual "Buenos días, Puerto Rico" post on Facebook, he wrote that voters end up rejecting those who wield power with an attitude of superiority. "Arrogance and elitism are always rejected at the polls. It happens in primaries, special elections, midterms and general elections. You only have to review history to prove it," Rivera Schatz said.
Arrogance and elitism are always rejected at the polls.
He also criticized those who, in his view, treat political power as a permanent position. "Those who think government is a kingdom or a principality, as well as the oligarchs who enable them, have no place in democracies. Sooner or later they end up out, no matter how much public relations they do or pay for, lies they tell, polls they manipulate and 'speeches’ they give," he added.
He closed with a reference to the date of Puerto Rico’s next general elections: "November 7, 2028, 6 p.m.! HOW BEAUTIFUL IS PUERTO RICO AND OUR NATION!" His remarks come after Democrats regained control of both chambers of the U.S. Congress, an electoral setback for the Republican Party and President Donald Trump.
