Puerto Rico Governor Jenniffer González Colón on Tuesday lashed out at Senate President Thomas Rivera Schatz, saying he 'gets up fighting' and 'fights even with his own shadow,' hours after the legislative leader criticized the organization of the New Progressive Party’s (PNP) convention. Speaking at a press conference, González Colón said everything she does bothers him, from building a road to announcing a project, and that while some people are toxic, 'I don’t live fighting, I live working.'
Rivera Schatz had questioned on social media that, as of Tuesday, there is still no formal announcement of the PNP convention or the general assembly required by party rules, nor have processes been convened to ratify or open filings for party posts. He said there is only a timid social media post asking to 'save the date' for December 4, 5 and 6, and invoked party founder Luis Ferré.
PNP general secretary Jorge Santini told Metro Puerto Rico the convention will be held December 4-6 in western towns including Mayagüez, Aguadilla, Moca and Isabela, with details at a press conference. Santini said it could have been held between August and mid-October but the governor postponed it over the drought. He also acknowledged the governor believes a primary could take place next year, which he says he will respect while standing with her.
