A 26-year-old man who was shot in mid-October was taken into custody and jailed on Wednesday night after being discharged from the hospital, the Puerto Rico Police press office reported. Agents from the Arecibo Intelligence and Arrests Division moved Sariel Guzmán Águila, alias "Gasper", from the Puerto Rico Medical Center in Río Piedras to court to process an arrest warrant issued by Judge Francisco Santiago on a charge of abuse of an elderly person, after he allegedly attacked his 80-year-old grandmother.
The judge set bail at $50,000. Guzmán Águila was shot on the afternoon of October 14 between buildings six and seven of the Antonio Dávila Freytes public housing complex in Barceloneta. While investigating that shooting, police discovered he had an outstanding arrest warrant, and he received medical care before the legal process resumed once he was discharged. Judge Rafael Lugo Morales ordered him jailed without posting bail pending his preliminary hearing.
