Police in Humacao, Puerto Rico detained 22-year-old Rey Janiel Chariez Hernández on attempted murder charges and weapons-law violations after he repeatedly stabbed his 45-year-old stepmother. Lieutenant Daniel Allende said the attack happened at the family’s home after the two stumbled or tripped over each other; the young man then grabbed a knife and attacked the victim, wounding her head, shoulders, abdomen and arms.
Authorities said the violent act was provoked by the stumble. The woman is reported to be in stable condition and is cooperating with authorities. Charges against the young man will be filed, according to the headline report.
