Loíza Mayor Julia Nazario declined on Friday to go into the controversy surrounding Sen. Héctor Joaquín Sánchez Álvarez over the alleged transfer of four students to a political activity in Camuy and allegations about an alleged chat with the minors. "I’m trying to comment as little as possible. I do want you to know that I have been watching over the minors, but I’m going to wait for the investigations to end," Nazario said in a radio interview.

"For the good of the children, who are four minors, the most important thing here, instead of inferring and using news that has been distorted, is to look out for the good of these four minors," the mayor said.

The municipal executive recalled that the legislator initially tried to present the controversy as a political matter and said she prefers to limit her statements so as not to affect the investigations. "For the good of the children, who are four minors, the most important thing here, instead of inferring and using news that has been distorted, is to look out for the good of these four minors," the mayor said.

The Department of Justice and the Department of Education have investigations open into the complaints, while the Senate Ethics Committee temporarily halted its proceeding until the results of those inquiries are known. Sánchez Álvarez reacted in a Facebook post to the allegations about an alleged chat with the students. "The allegations about a chat in which I supposedly participate with minors come with the malice of inferring some improper action on my part," the senator said, calling for the investigations to be thorough and for all the evidence to be published. "That is what I stand by, with a clear and calm conscience," he concluded.
