The Mayor of San Juan, Miguel A. Romero Lugo, announced the start of the 'Respuesta Capital' program, a municipal initiative with a $1 million investment from the Municipal Emergency Fund. The program aims to install residential cisterns in up to 400 homes affected by the recent water supply crisis in the capital.

The initiative will provide potable water storage systems to reduce the impact of future service interruptions. The first phase of the program has already begun, with certificates delivered to the first selected families. The participants were identified through the Municipal Emergency Management Office's cases during the water emergency, prioritizing residents who relied on water distribution and lacked storage systems at home.
As of June 18, 172 families had qualified, with 160 invited to receive certificates. The program aims to strengthen the resilience of affected families and reduce their vulnerability to prolonged water service interruptions. The Director of the Department for Community Social Development, Francine Sánchez Marcano, explained that the effort responds to the needs identified in the communities during the emergency.
