Puerto Rico Wins Bronze Medal and Secures Three World Championship Spots in Artistic Gymnastics

Puerto Rico's artistic gymnastics team concluded its participation in the Pan American Championship in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, with positive results, winning a bronze medal and securing three spots for the 2026 World Championship in Rotterdam, Netherlands. José 'Gussy' López won the bronze medal in the horse vault event, adding to his international achievements. López, Karelys Díaz, and Jensuel Soto qualified for the World Championship.

The team also participated in several finals, with Díaz advancing to the women's all-around final and López and Soto to the men's all-around final. Nelson Guilbe reached the final in the pommel horse event, and López qualified for the horse vault final, where he won the bronze medal. The president of the Puerto Rico Olympic Committee, Sara Rosario Vélez, and the president of the Puerto Rican Gymnastics Federation, Juan Francisco Ortiz, expressed pride in the team's results, highlighting the commitment of the athletes, coaches, and collective effort to elevate the level of Puerto Rican gymnastics.

The team's technical staff included Juan Carlos Colón, Carlos Alvira, and Joseph Rodríguez. The gymnasts who competed in Rio de Janeiro are already certified to participate in the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo.
