Updated Jun 24, 2026 · via Primera Hora

The Puerto Rico general budget for the 2026-2027 fiscal year will allocate $35 million specifically for the redevelopment of the former Roosevelt Roads Naval Base. The funds will be directed towards priority infrastructure projects for potable water and sanitary systems, considered essential for enabling new economic, commercial, tourist, and residential initiatives within Roosevelt Roads.

According to Ceiba Mayor Samuel Rivera Báez, this allocation represents a historic step in decades of efforts to transform the former naval base into a development engine for Ceiba and eastern Puerto Rico. The new funds add to $24 million already available in the Roosevelt Roads Local Redevelopment Authority.

Mayor Rivera Báez stated that the combination of these funds will allow the start of priority projects for water and sanitary systems, which are key to unlocking development in Roosevelt Roads. Puerto Rico House of Representatives President Carlos 'Johnny' Méndez Núñez highlighted the importance of the mayor's management in achieving the inclusion of the funds in the budget.
