A young man, who was a minor at the time of the incident, has been charged with serious offenses in connection with a shooting that resulted in the death of a 16-year-old boy in Ponce. The incident occurred on October 6 of last year at the intersection of San Andrés Street and Ferry Avenue in the Santa Teresita urbanization. According to the investigation, the two minors were involved in a transaction to buy a gun magazine when a dispute arose, leading to an exchange of gunfire. Roderick Yariel Badillo Torres, 16, was shot three times, including once in the chest, and died at the hospital.
The other minor, identified as G.B.C., was shot near the mouth and was in critical condition. The 18-year-old suspect, who was a minor at the time, was charged with offenses including possession, transportation, or use of firearms without a license, and discharging or pointing firearms. Judge Ginny Vélez Carreras found cause for all the charges and released the young man to his mother's custody. The case is set to be heard on July 6, 2026.
