Franchesca Torres, a 20-year-old from Coamo, has joined the Puerto Rico Women's National Basketball Team. Torres, who currently resides in Cayey, will debut with the team at the Centrobasket tournament in Nicaragua. She is a student at the University of Puerto Rico's Bayamón campus, where she plays under coach Gerardo 'Jerry' Batista, who also leads the national team.
Batista describes Torres as a 'daring player' with good shooting, attacking, and ball distribution skills. Torres, who is a left-handed point guard with great physical strength, is eager to contribute to the team and represent Puerto Rico. She has been improving with each practice and is confident in her abilities.
Torres is a native Puerto Rican player, which is uncommon in the current team, and has been rising through the ranks from youth clubs and selections to the adult team.
