Puerto Rico Keeps Hopes Alive in FIBA World Cup Qualifiers

The Puerto Rico men's national basketball team secured a crucial 115-92 win over Bahamas, keeping their hopes alive in the FIBA World Cup 2027 qualifiers. Six Puerto Rican players scored in double figures, led by Jezreel de Jesús with 22 points, followed by Ysmael Romero with 21 points. Alfonso Plummer added 19 points, Ethan Thompson scored 17, Enrique Freeman contributed 13, and Isaiah Piñeiro had 11.

Despite the loss, Bahamas and Canada advanced to the next round, while Jamaica was eliminated. Puerto Rico will face Argentina on August 27 and host Uruguay on August 31 in the second round. The team, led by coach Carlos González, finished third in Group B with a 2-4 record and will continue their campaign in November against Panama and Uruguay.

The qualifying calendar will conclude in 2027 with matches against Argentina and Panama.
