Two Taiwanese Companies Consider Establishing Operations in Puerto Rico

Updated Jun 25, 2026 · via El Nuevo Día

Ella Woger Nieves, CEO of Invest Puerto Rico, confirmed that two new Taiwanese companies are interested in investing and expanding their operations in Puerto Rico. The companies, related to biotechnology and medical devices, have initiated conversations to establish themselves on the island. Woger Nieves met with the companies during the BIO International Convention 2026, where she explained Puerto Rico's value proposition.

The interest from Taiwanese companies follows the establishment of PharmaEssentia, the first Taiwanese pharmaceutical company in Puerto Rico, which was reported in March. Negotiations with PharmaEssentia took three years, and the government is now evaluating a potential trade mission to Taiwan in the coming months. Roberto Lefranc Fortuño, subsecretary of the Department of Economic Development and Commerce, also met with PharmaEssentia's CEO to maintain commercial relations.

The delegation from Puerto Rico, consisting of 32 people, is representing the island at the convention.
