Governor Jenniffer González Colón left journalists waiting Wednesday afternoon at a public event in Río Grande, after her communications staff told reporters she would answer questions. At the last minute, staff said she had to leave for another location and would not be available. González Colón was attending a Fire Corps (Cuerpo de Bomberos) promotion ceremony at the Hyatt Hotel in Río Grande.
La Fortaleza had not convened press for the governor's public events since Monday, September 14. Reporters had wanted to ask about several controversies in her administration, including developments in the failed Power Expectations contract and Energy Czar Josué Colón, a Senate investigation report on former Secretary of the Governor's Office Francisco Domenech, and the Special Independent Prosecutor's Panel (FEI) notification that it had included DDEC Deputy Secretary Roberto Lefranc Fortuño in its investigation.
Earlier that day, at a La Fortaleza meeting on federal Medicaid funds for Puerto Rico, González Colón only accepted questions on that topic, saying she isn't concerned the controversies will affect federal efforts to secure more Medicaid funds, stating there is no crime commission or charges filed, and that "reality outweighs perception."
