The Fiscal Oversight Board (JSF) approved the 2026-2027 budget passed by the Legislative Assembly, determining it complies with the certified fiscal plan for the Puerto Rico government. In a letter to Governor Jenniffer González, JSF Executive Director Robert F. Mujica stated that the budget is consistent with the provisions of the Promesa law.
The JSF expects to certify the budget by June 30, but has not yet received it from the governor. The board awaits the budget by June 29 to review and certify it. The president of the House of Representatives, Carlos 'Johnny' Méndez, reacted by stating that the budget's certification 'makes clear the commitment to pave the way for the JSF's exit'.
Méndez noted that this is the second consecutive budget to be certified, demonstrating the commitment to meet the established parameters for the JSF's exit. The House Finance Commission held 14 public hearings with over 45 entities, mostly related to government budget management, as part of the evaluation.
