The Confederación Hípica del Caribe has confirmed Puerto Rico as the host of the 2026 Serie Hípica del Caribe, to be held in December at the Hipódromo Camarero in Canóvanas. This will be the second time Puerto Rico hosts the event, having previously done so in 2021. According to Juan Carlos Santaella Marchán, director of the Comisión de Juegos del Gobierno de Puerto Rico, the allocation of $1 million by the Puerto Rico Government was a key factor in securing the event.
The Serie Hípica del Caribe brings together delegations from Ecuador, Mexico, Venezuela, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, and Panama. Notable Puerto Rican jockeys Irad and José Luis Ortiz are expected to participate, along with other renowned figures. The event consists of six competitions, including the traditional Clásico del Caribe for native three-year-old colts.
Santaella Marchán expressed enthusiasm for the opportunity to showcase Puerto Rico as a premier destination for sports tourism.
