Puerto Rico has been confirmed as the host of the 2026 Caribbean Horse Racing Series, as announced by the authorities during the mid-year meeting of the Caribbean Equestrian Confederation in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The competition will take place in December at the Hipódromo Camarero in Canóvanas, marking the event's return to the island after its last edition in Panama. Juan Carlos Santaella Marchán, Director of the Games Commission of the Government of Puerto Rico, highlighted the government's support as a key factor in the selection of the venue.
The allocation of $1 million by the Government of Puerto Rico was a determining factor in strengthening the proposal and securing a competitive position for the island in the selection process. The Caribbean Horse Racing Series brings together delegations from Ecuador, Mexico, Venezuela, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, and Panama, among other countries, and is considered the main equestrian competition in the region. The program includes six events, including the traditional Clásico del Caribe for native three-year-old colts.
Renowned Puerto Rican jockeys such as Irad and José Luis Ortiz are expected to participate, along with other prominent figures from the region.
