The National Meteorological Service (SNM) in San Juan reported that a trough in the lower levels of the atmosphere will approach the region on Saturday, increasing humidity and leading to more frequent rain showers over Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. The SNM stated that water precipitable values will increase to around 1.8 inches, near normal levels for this time of year, resulting in more unstable conditions during the day.
Rain showers are expected to move from the US Virgin Islands and eastern Puerto Rico to the island's interior in the afternoon. The SNM warned of possible water accumulation on roads, poor drainage areas, and isolated urban flooding due to the combination of humidity and light winds.
Meanwhile, seven municipalities in southern and southwestern Puerto Rico were classified as being in severe drought by the US Drought Monitor, affecting around 891,030 people. Governor Jenniffer González announced that scheduled interruptions to the potable water service may be reported soon due to the drought.
