Bryan Torres, a player from Puerto Rico, hit a two-run home run to support Kyle Leahy's solid start, and the San Luis Cardinals defeated the Miami Marlins 2-1 on Sunday, ending a four-game losing streak. Masyn Winn started the second inning with a single against Tyler Phillips, and Torres followed with his third home run to put the score at 2-0. Leahy did not allow a hit until Owen Caissie and Graham Paulie hit consecutive doubles in the fifth, narrowing the gap to 2-1.
Leahy allowed one run with two hits and gave up three walks in five innings. JoJo Romero got four outs, and Ryne Stanek induced a double play to end the seventh inning. George Soriano struck out two in a perfect eighth, and Riley O'Brien retired three in order in the ninth for his 20th save in 24 opportunities.
Phillips retired 12 consecutive batters after Torres' home run until JJ Wetherholt started the sixth with a single. Panamanian Iván Herrera batted into a double play four pitches later, and Alec Burleson grounded out to end the inning. Phillips allowed two runs and six hits in 7 1/3 innings, his highest total of the season.
