The Puerto Rico Legislative Assembly is in its final hours of the third ordinary session, which ends on Tuesday, and is focused on resolving differences in measures approved by both the Senate and the House of Representatives. These measures include budget allocations, amendments to public entities, and municipal infrastructure.
Despite promises of legislative reforms to the permit system and the judiciary being put off until August, the Senate and House leadership are working on proposals still under analysis in conference committees. The Senate's President of the Legal and Government Commissions, Senator Ángel Toledo, stated that the session demonstrated the Senate's constant work on complex projects, including education, health, and energy issues.
Proposals under consideration include the reorganization of the Tourism Company, a framework for collaboration between municipalities and LUMA Energy, and the streamlining of municipal land registration. Other measures awaiting consensus include the allocation of $20 million to social welfare programs and the transfer of funds to the Municipality of Culebra.
