Loíza Mayor Demands Governor Replace AAA Management Over Water Crisis

Loíza Mayor Julia Nazario called on Governor Jenniffer González Colón to change the management of the Puerto Rico Aqueduct and Sewer Authority (AAA), saying officials have been ineffective. She said, "I've lived through many droughts, and we had never gone without water for so long." Nazario noted half of her municipality is under water rationing while the other half has gone 18 straight days without potable water service.

She urged the governor to "look with love" at these communities and "change people," saying "the problem is management and execution." On Sunday, the mayor met with AAA's San Juan regional director, José Antonio Rivera Ortiz, but said his explanations did not convince her or local merchants. Rivera Ortiz attributed the lack of water in Piñones to insufficient water pressure.

Nazario closed by asking that her community be treated with the same compassion shown to others.
