Updated Jul 1, 2026 · via Primera Hora

The Puerto Rico government is considering extending the operation of aid collection centers for Venezuela, according to Secretary of State Rosachely Rivera Santana. The centers, located in Ponce, Manatí, Mayagüez, Fajardo, and Guaynabo, are currently set to conclude operations on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Rivera Santana reported that the collection of aid has been successful and that the government will continue to coordinate the shipment of private sector donations to Venezuela even after the centers close. The priority items needed include casetas or toldos, medications, medical supplies, safety helmets, non-perishable food, and personal hygiene items.

The government has ruled out clothing as a priority and noted that potable water cannot be transported due to weight constraints. The aid is being shipped on small planes to the Maiquetía airport, which is 15 minutes from the disaster zone in La Guaira.
