Venezuela Thanks Puerto Rico for Humanitarian Aid

Updated Jul 2, 2026 · via Primera Hora

The Archbishop of Caracas, Monsignor Raúl Biord Castillo, expressed gratitude to the people of Puerto Rico for their solidarity and aid in response to the recent earthquakes in Venezuela. Puerto Rico sent two planes carrying 7,000 pounds of supplies to help those affected by the disaster. The aid will be distributed through Cáritas Venezuela, a Catholic organization, to expedite the assistance process and avoid bureaucratic delays.

Father Enrique Camacho, director of Cáritas Puerto Rico, led one of the planes and will stay in Venezuela for a month to ensure the aid reaches those in need. The government of Puerto Rico plans to continue sending aid on small planes to the Maiquetía airport, near the disaster zone. Collection centers across the island will conclude their efforts on Thursday, but one center in Guaynabo will remain open until June 6.

The earthquakes in Venezuela caused over 2,000 deaths and 50,000 disappearances, with entire buildings collapsing in seconds.
