Puerto Rican Aid Reaches Venezuela Earthquake Victims

Updated Jul 3, 2026 · via Primera Hora

The first shipments of aid from Puerto Rico to assist those affected by the powerful earthquakes in Venezuela have begun to be distributed, according to Father Enrique 'Kike' Camacho, director of Cáritas Puerto Rico. Camacho expressed a mix of emotions, describing the destruction as resembling 'an atomic bomb explosion' and feeling sadness, but also pride in the generosity of the Puerto Rican people.

The aid, which includes 7,000 pounds of supplies, was sent via two planes. The earthquakes, which occurred on June 24, have left over 2,000 people dead and around 50,000 missing.

Father Camacho is leading efforts to ensure the aid is distributed through Cáritas Venezuela. He documented the distribution of aid, including water, food, and medicine, and shared photos and videos of the destruction and people waiting for help.
