The Caguas Prosecutor's Office filed charges against 20-year-old Lillibeth Carrión Castro for allegedly causing the death of Colonel Aníbal Morales Aponte, who died days after being hit while driving his official motorcycle in Caguas. Carrión Castro faces a charge for violating the Vehicle and Traffic Law, specifically driving negligently and recklessly. Judge María T.

Hernández Calzada found cause for arrest and imposed a $20,000 bond, which Carrión Castro posted, and she was placed under electronic supervision. The preliminary hearing is set for July 14. According to the investigation, the incident occurred on January 7 when Carrión Castro drove a 2019 Honda through a red light and made an improper turn, hitting Morales Aponte's motorcycle.

Morales Aponte, 53, was driving with the green light in his favor and suffered multiple injuries, leading to his death on January 13. He was posthumously promoted to colonel, the first officer to receive such a promotion directly from agent to colonel. His death was certified as occurring while in service, making his family eligible for benefits under Article 31 of Law 83 of 2025.
