María Conte, executive director of Puerto Rico's Institute of Forensic Sciences (ICF), said Thursday during a press conference at La Fortaleza that DNA tests conducted on Carlos M. Estefano Pino, a person of interest in the murder of nurse Jennifer M. Torres Castro in Caguas, are still being analyzed and results could take days to weeks.

Estefano Pino, 67, has not been charged. Police are awaiting corroboration of several facts and results of ongoing inquiries before the Caguas Prosecutor's Office decides whether to file charges. Torres Castro, 36 and a mother of two minors, was initially reported to have died of undetermined cause, but forensic analysis later concluded her death was violent.

Her body was found Wednesday, June 24, at 9:27 p.m. in a residence at kilometer 27.4 of highway PR-01, in the Quebrada Arenas sector of Río Cañas barrio in Caguas. Estefano Pino had been released by the Parole Board in 2018 while still owing 85 years on a sentence for the 1990 murder of a 22-year-old woman. He was later returned to prison after the Parole Board revoked his release conditions following an official report from his case's parole officer, which also identified him as a suspect in this murder.
