The Department of Natural and Environmental Resources (DRNA) issued a total of $19,200 in fines for violations of laws and regulations during the 4th of July weekend, according to Secretary Waldemar Quiles. The DRNA's vigilance corps conducted 117 boat inspections, issuing 96 tickets and attending to two rescues and four accidents.
The corps also patrolled beaches, coasts, and natural reserves, resulting in fines for violations of the Navigation and Aquatic Safety Law and the Transit Law. In the Arecibo maritime area, 13 tickets were issued for infractions of the Navigation and Aquatic Safety Law, while in the Ponce maritime area, four citizens were fined for similar violations.
Additionally, the corps captured a snake and a caiman in the San Juan terrestrial unit. The DRNA's efforts aimed to prevent and address violations during the holiday weekend, with a focus on protecting natural resources and preserving the ecosystem.
