Alex DJ, host of "Puerto Rico Gana," announced the opening of Hacienda Margarita Living Resort, a home for older adults, on August 1 in Las Piedras. The presenter, who has spent 15 years as spokesperson for a medical plans company in Puerto Rico, said that experience gave him firsthand insight into the needs of the island's elderly population. He said he visited centers across Puerto Rico and combined their best features into this project.
The facility sits on a 10-cuerda farm about four minutes from the Olympic Plaza complex, home to Caribbean Cinemas, in his hometown of Las Piedras. Rooms are designed resort-style, similar to a hotel in the capital, and the property will offer wifi and air conditioning. Planned amenities include daily activities, live music, home gardens, excursions, weekly spa services, haircuts, and massages.
Alex DJ, who also hosts on Telemundo, said the project stemmed from his wish to create a place he'd trust for a loved one's care, emphasizing dignity and quality of life; he noted his own mother is currently too independent to need such care.
