Updated Jul 7, 2026 · via Primera Hora

Youths participating in the José M. Berrocal Internship, part of the Autoridad de Asesoría Financiera y Agencia Fiscal (AAFAF), visited the San Francisco de Asís Animal Sanctuary in Cabo Rojo to perform community service. During the visit, the interns actively collaborated in caring for the animals, feeding them, cleaning their ears, and providing attention and affection.

They also took a tour of the facilities to learn about the sanctuary's work and challenges. The group brought donations, including food and cleaning supplies, worth $2,111.83. The experience allowed the interns to share with the sanctuary team and understand the importance of community alliances for non-profit initiatives that positively impact Puerto Rico.

The director of AAFAF, Francisco Domenech, stated that the goal is for youths to understand the multiple ways to serve their communities and protect animal life. The subdirector, Vicky González Vega, highlighted the educational value of such initiatives, providing interns with the opportunity to learn about community organizations and foster a culture of service and solidarity.
