Puerto Rico's Tourism Company will set up a collection center for pet supplies to aid animals affected by earthquakes in Venezuela. The drive will run during the Gran Feria de Turismo Interno, taking place this Saturday and Sunday at Balneario de Boquerón in Cabo Rojo. Tourism Company Director Willianette Robles Cancel announced the initiative at a press conference in La Fortaleza, saying organizers will collect food, medicine, leashes, carriers, beds, hygiene products and other pet essentials to send to Venezuela.
The effort will be led by Venezuelan singer Dionicio Matos, winner of the show Objetivo Fama. Separately, Puerto Rico's Colegio de Médicos Veterinarios launched a fundraising campaign, pledging to match donations up to $2,000, accepted through www.cmvpr.org/venezuela until Thursday, July 16, 2026. The earthquakes, reported June 24, have left over 3,000 dead and thousands missing.
The tourism fair itself will feature 71 municipalities, more than 130 exhibitors, an artisan market, and performances by La Banda Algarete, Limi-T 21, Los Rabanes, Giselle, La Tribu de Abrante, El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico, Joseph Fonseca and Pedro Capó.
