Jazael Rodríguez will play the lead role in the musical 'Todo el mundo habla de Jamie', which will debut at the Centro de Bellas Artes de Santurce from July 23 to 26. The musical, produced by Encanto Productions, is based on the documentary 'Jamie: Drag Queen at 16' and aims to convey a message about embracing identity, courage, and self-worth.
Rodríguez described the role as a great responsibility and a personal challenge, as he had to look beyond the character and understand the struggles of 'Jamie New', a young man from Sheffield, England, who dreams of becoming a drag queen. The musical features Modesto Lacén as Jamie's father and Denise Quiñones as his mother, 'Margaret New'.
Rodríguez expressed his admiration for Quiñones, with whom he shares most of the scenes, and stated that he feels honored to work with her. The musical explores themes of rejection, bullying, and prejudice, but ultimately shows how Jamie overcomes these obstacles with the help of his mother and finds a path of respect, courage, and love.
