A shooting last night on Flamboyán Street in the Culebrinas neighborhood of San Sebastián, Puerto Rico, left one man dead and another wounded, police reported. According to preliminary reports, the incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. as two men were talking outside a residence when a blue compact vehicle passed by and occupants fired multiple shots from inside. A 9-1-1 call alerted authorities. Enrique Vargas Farías, 33, was struck and died while being transported to a hospital.
A 52-year-old man was also wounded, suffering a gunshot wound with entry and exit points in his right leg; he was hospitalized at the Centro Médico de Puerto Rico in Río Piedras. Captain Luis R. Domenech Miranda, assistant director of the Criminal Investigations Corps (CIC) in Aguadilla, said the motive has not yet been established and that investigators are not ruling anything out. He noted the victim had no criminal record and it is unclear whether he was the intended target.
Investigators plan to check nearby businesses for security camera footage and are following up on tips received. The investigation is led by agent Gilberto Zapata Yépez of the CIC Homicide Division in Aguadilla, under Domenech Miranda's supervision and prosecutor Paola Reyes.
