A drive-by shooting last night on Flamboyán Street in the Culebrinas neighborhood of San Sebastián left one man dead and another wounded, according to the Puerto Rico Police. Per the preliminary report, the incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. as two men were talking in front of a residence when a blue compact vehicle passed and multiple shots were fired from inside. A call to the 9-1-1 Emergency System alerted authorities. Enrique Vargas Farías, 33, died while being transported to a hospital.
A 52-year-old man was also wounded, suffering a gunshot wound with entry and exit points in his right leg; he was hospitalized at the Centro Médico de Puerto Rico in Río Piedras. Captain Luis R. Domenech Miranda, assistant director of the Criminal Investigations Corps (CIC) in Aguadilla, said the motive has not been established and no angle is being ruled out. He noted the deceased had no criminal record and it is unclear if he was the intended target.
Investigators plan to check nearby businesses for security camera footage and are following up on tips received. The investigation is led by agent Gilberto Zapata Yépez of the CIC Homicide Division in Aguadilla, under Domenech Miranda's supervision and prosecutor Paola Reyes.
