Puerto Rico's Institute of Forensic Sciences (ICF) and the Police announced a two-day event to help families of missing persons, inviting them to submit DNA samples or dental records that could aid identification. Since 2024, ICF has identified 46 cases through the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs), a database covering missing persons and unidentified or unclaimed remains across U.S. jurisdictions, including Puerto Rico, which joined in 2009.
Two years ago, ICF created the Human Identification Unit, which began routinely feeding data into NamUs. ICF Director Dr.
