The Department of Economic Development and Commerce (DDEC) and logistics company Islandwide announced the launch of an automated package sorting system aimed at speeding up parcel processing and strengthening Puerto Rico's logistics capacity. Governor Jenniffer González Colón, DDEC Secretary Carlos J. Ríos Pierluisi, and Islandwide CEO Pedro Rosaly, who also serves as president of the Asociación Hecho en Puerto Rico (AHPR), praised the project.

González Colón said the automation boosts competitiveness and helps consolidate Puerto Rico as a regional logistics hub. Ríos Pierluisi said his goal is for Puerto Rico to become the Caribbean's top logistics center and one of the most important in the Americas, citing Islandwide's growth as proof local companies can compete globally. Rosaly said the new automatic conveyor sorter will increase package processing capacity, reduce sorting times and errors, improve shipment traceability, and boost the company's role in supply chains for medical devices, pharmaceuticals, health, and advanced manufacturing.

He detailed that Islandwide invested $1,652,000 in machinery and equipment, and DDEC granted the company economic incentives under Act 60 of 2019 totaling $580,000 — with $500,000 directed toward machinery and equipment and the remainder facilitating the creation of about 80 jobs.
