Governor Jenniffer González Colón participated for the first time in the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) opening bell ceremony this Tuesday, where the Puerto Rico government presented its long-term strategy to attract investment, companies, and capital to the island. According to La Fortaleza, this marked the first time Puerto Rico's government took part in the NYSE opening ceremony.
González Colón was joined by Economic Development and Commerce Department (DDEC) Secretary Carlos Ríos Pierluisi, Treasury Secretary Ángel Pantoja, and Puerto Rico Federal Affairs Administration (PRFAA) Executive Director Gabriella Boffelli, along with private-sector representatives including Paulson Puerto Rico, Evertec, and Banco Popular. The administration highlighted the extension of tax incentives for new resident investors who meet requirements through December 31, 2055, as a key competitiveness argument.
González Colón stated: "Puerto Rico compites for investment, companies, talent and opportunities, and we intend to win." She said offering long-term tax certainty aims to attract capital supporting new businesses, economic activity, and jobs. The government emphasized Act 60 provisions, including a maximum 4% rate on certain interest, dividends, and capital gains from Puerto Rican sources, and a maximum 4% corporate rate for certain export services.
