The Office of the Women's Advocate (OPM) held the first educational session of its campaign "Cuando una mujer alza su voz" (When a Woman Raises Her Voice), developed together with singer Melina León to prevent gender-based violence, promote healthy relationships, and connect Puerto Rico communities to support resources. The event, held at Fort Allen in Juana Díaz, reached more than 200 students who took part in a day of orientation, reflection, and dialogue on recognizing signs of violence, strengthening self-esteem, fostering respect-based relationships, and learning about available help resources.
Women's Advocate Astrid Piñeiro Vázquez shared the OPM's commitment to continue bringing preventive education to all sectors of the island, while Melina León delivered a message inspired by the campaign and by a new version of her song "Cuando una mujer." Piñeiro Vázquez said the event marked "the first step of an initiative that seeks to transform lives through education, prevention, and support," adding that seeing more than 200 young people participate, ask questions, and reflect on respect, equality, and healthy coexistence confirms they are planting awareness where it is most needed. The article was cut off as León began describing her own experience with mistreatment.
