The San Juan Animal Protection and Adoption Center received economic aid to continue its animal welfare services. Mayor Miguel A. Romero Lugo announced that the center participated in PetSmart Charities' National Adoption Week, held from July 20 to 26, to connect dogs and cats with families willing to provide a permanent home.
The center received a $20,000 grant from PetSmart Charities to support its animal welfare efforts and promote new adoption opportunities. According to Romero Lugo, every animal at the center deserves the opportunity to feel safe and receive necessary care. The National Adoption Week coincides with the 'kitten season' when the arrival of newborn kittens and lactating cats increases, requiring care, protection, and responsible homes.
The center's staff was available to guide potential adopters and help them identify the best pet for their home and lifestyle. Director Thomás González Meléndez highlighted that responsible adoption changes not only the life of the selected pet but also the lives of those who adopt.
