According to the Servicio Nacional de Meteorología (SNM), July 2026 is on track to be the driest July on record at the San Juan weather station since 1898, with only 0.53 inches of rain accumulated as of Tuesday. Meteorologist Yidiana Zayas noted that this data is specific to the San Juan airport and may not reflect the entire island's rainfall.
With three days left in the month, the total remains below the 1.10 inches recorded in July 1929, the current record for the driest July. Additionally, July 2026 is also expected to be the second-hottest on record, with an average temperature of 85.1 degrees Fahrenheit, just below the 85.7 degrees recorded in July 2024.
The heat has been intense, with a record-breaking 93 degrees Fahrenheit on July 28, and seven consecutive days of temperatures above 90 degrees Fahrenheit from July 22 to 28. The forecast for the remainder of the week is expected to be similar, with high temperatures, scattered showers, and low rainfall activity.
