San Juan set a new heat record on Sunday, October 25, when the National Weather Service (NWS) reported a maximum temperature of 94°F, surpassing the previous record of 93°F set in 2014. The NWS announced the record on social media during the afternoon. The morning passed quietly in Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands, with little or no rain and mostly clear or partly cloudy skies.

Dry air at various levels of the atmosphere limited shower development. The main concern was the heat, with maximum temperatures in the upper 80s to lower 90s Fahrenheit in low-lying, urban and coastal areas, and the combination of elevated temperatures and humidity produced dangerous heat indices, especially in urban and coastal zones. The NWS kept a heat advisory in effect until 5:00 PM. AST for all of Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.

Temperatures are expected to remain above normal, along with sufficient surface humidity and southeast winds, so new heat-related alerts could be issued in the coming days. Authorities recommend staying hydrated and avoiding prolonged sun exposure.
