The San Juan Municipal Assembly held public hearings on Ordinance No. 55, which proposes to transfer 90 years of control over Parque del Escambrón land to private hands for the creation of a multiparking facility. According to Daisy Sánchez Collazo, a municipal legislator from the Movimiento Victoria Ciudadana (MVC), the hearings showed widespread citizen opposition to the project.
The majority of presentations were against the ordinance, raising questions about its necessity and impact. Sánchez Collazo noted that the municipality did not provide necessary information for a proper evaluation of the measure, including details on the project's cost, plans, and dimensions.
Experts expressed concerns about the potential environmental and infrastructure impact of the multiparking facility, suggesting it could worsen traffic congestion rather than alleviate it.
