Puerto Rican citizens, private companies, non-profit organizations, and the government are continuing to send humanitarian aid to Venezuela following two earthquakes of magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 that occurred on June 24, resulting in 5,546 deaths and 16,740 injuries, according to Jorge Rodríguez, president of the National Assembly of Venezuela. This second phase of the operation, which will be carried out by sea, is focused on sending food and other essential supplies donated by Puerto Ricans.
The aid is being mobilized in containers, with four already dispatched on July 21, ten scheduled for August 4, and seven more for August 11, in addition to around 15 more containers being prepared. According to the Department of State, this maritime effort would bring the total to approximately 1,000 pallets of supplies destined for affected communities in Venezuela.
Secretary of the Department of State, Rosachely Rivera Santana, stated that each shipment represents Puerto Rico's commitment to a people still facing the consequences of this emergency.
