The Secretary of the Department of Natural and Environmental Resources (DRNA), Waldemar Quiles, announced on Monday that members of the Ranger Corps captured a rhesus monkey at the Las Cabezas de San Juan lighthouse in Fajardo. The animal was taken to the Center for Rehabilitation of Native Species and Exotic Species Management in Cambalache, Arecibo.
Quiles stated that the monkey was found during a preventive patrol and was sent to the center for evaluation. He urged citizens not to confront these species and to report any sightings to the Ranger Corps.
The rhesus monkey is a primate native to southern and eastern Asia, known for its grayish-brown fur and pink face. It is a highly adaptable and social species that lives in groups, mainly in forests and areas near human settlements.
