Two young people were arrested in Mayagüez for their alleged part in a November 3 incident in Lajas, where they would have pointed a firearm at a 49-year-old man and fired several shots while threatening to kill him, the Puerto Rico Police Bureau reported. The arrestees were identified as Caridad Z. Acosta Pagán, 28, and Erik M. Marrero Cancel, 25, both subject to arrest warrants for events on PR-101 in the Sabana Yeguas neighborhood, El Tendal sector, in Lajas.

Agents of Mayagüez’s Special Arrests Division executed the warrants Thursday afternoon, according to the police report. Both were charged with attempted murder under Article 93A of the Penal Code and with violations of Articles 6.05, 6.14, 6.20 and 6.22 of the Weapons Law, with bail set at $1 million each. When neither posted the amount set by the Mayagüez court, Acosta Pagán was taken to the Bayamón women’s prison, while Marrero Cancel was transferred to correctional facility 676 in Ponce.

A preliminary hearing is set for November 17. The arrests were carried out by agents Waldemar Ramírez and Vidal Vázquez, under the supervision of Sergeant Rubén Lamberty Aldea and the coordination of Second Lieutenant Armando Santiago Ramos, assigned to the Mayagüez Intelligence and Arrests Division.
