Former amateur baseball pitcher and coach Alexander Bruno Pastrana, 45, was fatally shot last night at El Jobo grocery store on Camino Avelino López, kilometer 3.9, in Caimito, San Juan, Puerto Rico. Police said the circumstances remain under investigation. A 9-1-1 call alerted authorities to a serious assault; when officers arrived they found Bruno Pastrana on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds.
No arrests have been reported. Bruno Pastrana was a prominent amateur baseball pitcher who spent most of his career with the Pescadores del Plata of Comerío, and also played for the Cariduros de Fajardo, Jueyeros de Maunabo, and Bravos de Cidra. In 2010, while with Comerío, he set a record of 10 saves in a season during an era when the regular season consisted of 20 games.
Last year he returned to the Cariduros de Fajardo as a coach under manager Roberto "Concord" Santana. Agent Rafael Pérez of the Criminal Investigations Corps (CIC) in San Juan, along with prosecutor Félix Rivera, is handling the investigation.
